Opinions Vary

This blog will discuss social, cultural, political and economic issues. Generally, I will express my opinion and/or that of a correspondent to initiate discussion of a certain issue, but the interesting points and counterpoints will most likely be made in the comments sections. Many of the comments will probably come from people I know in "real life," but reasoned comments from surfers at large are welcome. I reserve the right to delete any comment that I consider to be derogatory or spam-like.

Words of Wisdom

  • Hard work pays off in the future. Laziness pays off now.

  • What's the speed of dark?

  • Light travels faster than sound. That is why some people appear bright until you hear them speak.

  • If you think nobody cares, try missing a couple of payments.

  • The early bird may get the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese in the trap.

  • He who laughs last, thinks slowest.

  • Remember, half the people you know are below average.

  • On the other hand, you have different fingers.

  • A day without sunshine is like...night.

  • Just remember - if the world didn't suck, we would all fall off.

  • Life isn't like a box of chocolates.... it's more like a jar of Jalapenos. What you do today, might burn your butt tomorrow.

Hello, I was just wondering what your take is on the riots that are currently going on in France? Are they being discussed in your program?

We can't really talk about riots but just protest. The main characteristics which are common to most protests are: fighting, strikes, clash with the police and of course vandalism.
We haven't get a chance to discuss it in class yet, but it might be interesting to know what everyone think about it. As we face this situation everyday it hasn't the same impact as it should have abroad (amplifier)!!!!!

It is really not a huge deal over here. In my opinion, the American media has blown it way out of proportion. It seems that they students that are active in this feel very strongly about their viewpoints. Unfortunately, other youths have gotten caught up in it as well, for no apparent reason at all. But, unless you go "looking" for the riots, you'd never even know they were happening here in Paris.

Are you kidding me? The demonstrations are pathetic! I can comprehend the reasoning for this uprising...I mean, who wouldn't want a guarantee they they couldn't get fired without justifiable cause. If you don't want to get fired, try this one: Make yourself a valuable asset to the workplace...Peope don't fire good workers. On top of that, it's illegal to work over 35 hours in a week...working in France is a vacation. And to conclude my "opinion," I don't see why there's so many people up in arms about this "proposed law" because how many people under the age of 26 work in France anyway? I don't see many, most kids are happy letting mommy and daddy take care of them while they run around tagging (spray painting) everything they can reach, drinking, complaining, and reeking havoc on their own society.
