Opinions Vary

This blog will discuss social, cultural, political and economic issues. Generally, I will express my opinion and/or that of a correspondent to initiate discussion of a certain issue, but the interesting points and counterpoints will most likely be made in the comments sections. Many of the comments will probably come from people I know in "real life," but reasoned comments from surfers at large are welcome. I reserve the right to delete any comment that I consider to be derogatory or spam-like.

Media: Is it Good or Bad?

We are living in a world of media over-exposure; indeed, the media informs us everyday about what’s going worldwide without almost any effort, always by pushing a button on our television or on the radio or with a simple click on Internet.

This side of media sounds good, but if we look at it more closely, we rapidly observe that the media can encourage risky behaviors and can manipulate our spirit if we are not a critical. Indeed, this dangerous side will affect the weakest, so precisely children, who build their thoughts and creativity everyday.

That’s why many intellectuals but also teachers and parents were made activists and militate for an awakening of the influence of the media.

So our aim in this topic is to make the pro and against concerning the role of the media and show where is the good and the bad part on its influence.

CAPITALISM Vs SOCIALISM

Capitalism and Socialism are the two most common economic systems in the world. As we all know, they are very disparate in how they view who runs the economy. Actually, most economies have ideas from both systems, but tend to be more of one than the other.
We will be discussing (& confronting) both approaches relaying on different evidences.
As a way of thinking, capitalism involves individuals that are different, that society is composed of individuals who pursue their own interests. Its major corollary is that the state exists to protect individual rights. Individuals are free to decide where to invest, what to produce or sell (this, in capitalism, is called "economic freedom").
But…In spite of The extraordinary level of material prosperity achieved by the capitalist system over the course, some individuals (mostly socialists) still think that capitalism is base, callous, exploitative and dehumanizing!

Socialism envisages a socio-economic system in which property and the distribution of wealth are subject to social control.
Even though this system seeks a cooperative society in which the means of production and distribution are owned by the government or collectively by the people…..there are still some individuals arguing that under socialism, a ruling class of intellectuals, bureaucrats and social planners decide what people want or what is good for society and then use the coercive power of the State to regulate, tax, and redistribute the wealth of those who work for a living. In other words, they believe socialism is a form of legalized theft.
Hence, the debate over the superiority of socialism and capitalism is far from being over because both types of systems in different societies throughout the world that have been successful at times. Both have their good and bad points…
